Message to BYU: Don't play Utah State

It is time to get rid of the charity case of USU athletics off of BYU's schedule. Until they are willing to fully invest in their football program and basketball team, don't waste your time.

According to reports, BYU is willing to do a home-home-neutral game, but the babies up North don't want to. Who has Utah State played? NO ONE outside of their conference.

As a side note, Congratulations on the big win today. Hopefully BYU gets a tournament bid!!

Charity case?

In football, I see your point, but are you really going to argue that case when it comes to basketball? After all, that's what this whole debate concerns.

Cougar fans win one game against the Ags and now they like to call the program a "charity case." How many times in a row had we beaten you before that? I forget. We just get so used to beating the "babies" down South.

you need to try to open your eyes beyond the bubble of Utah County. Utah State basketball is the best basketball program in the state and has been over the past 5-10 years...not exactly a charity case.

Excellent point! USU hasn't played any real non-conference games because baby Stewie won't play people tough. What a cupcake schedule.

While there has definetely been some discussion about the strength of the teams that USU has played, one thing should always be considered: How many times have they beat your team recently? If you are a BYU fan you know it has been quite a few times. Another point, the WAC is currently ranked in the top 10 for Basketball.....

Actually, the Mountain West Conference has a higher RPI than the WAC.

True, the Mountain West is a good conference.... but you still haven't presented much of an argument that Utah State is a "Charity case."

Read this article for an idea of how much of a "Charity case" Utah State is:

BYU. where the women are women and the men are too.

byu plays amazing at home. but on the road, might as well not show up at all. utah state is a better team than byu.

football? byu was horrible as well not too long ago. every school goes through phases.

do more research on BYU's offer. there is a little more to it than a home-home-neutral.

rose is a dictator, get used to him screwing things up.

charity case? give me a break.

It looks like the Aggies have struck my blog. Calling Rose a dictator? Come on.

The information came from the Salt Lake Tribune (http://blogs.sltrib.com/byu/archive/2007_01_01_archive.htm): Word got out last month that BYU and the Ags were having problems agreeing on a new three-year basketball contract. The BYU people want next year's game on a neutral floor (EnergySolutions Arena) and then play in Provo in December 2008 before going back to Logan the following year.

P.S. Guess who is ranked! (Hint: It's not Utah State)

Home-Home-Neutral..... its sounds fine, but the problem is that is USU is really lucky they may come out even financially after the neutral game. So….definitely not a plus for USU. Now here is the real question?

Why SHOULD there EVER be a neutral game? If both schools are so good at home why would they ever want neutral? Neutral is just an insult to the fans. BYU needs to grow up and act like the morally superior school they CLAIM to be.

On another note, congrats to BYU for getting ranked. Congrats to USU for a great bracketbuster game and another 20 win season.

Want a charity case, check this out:
* "Utah State's men's basketball program has become one of the most consistent in the country over the last eight years notching a 195-57 (.774) record, which averages out to more than 24 wins per season."

* "With its 20 wins this season, Utah State is now just one of four teams in the nation to win 20 or more games in each of the last eight years along with Duke, Florida, and Kansas" (as of the 20th).

* USU is one of just five schools to win at least 23 games during that time period (last seven years coming into this season) joining Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas, and Syracuse.

* Utah State's 77.4 percent winning percentage during the last eight years ranks fifth in the nation behind Duke (.843), Gonzaga (.801), Kansas (.785), and Illinois (.779)

So you can cry all you want, but in the end, this isn't about a charity case. As someone else noted, every school has its ups and downs. This year definitely isn't Utah State's best, but I bet BYU fans wish a bad year for them included 20 wins (one only has to look back to the 2004-05 season to find an example...).

Hmm, after a total of 1 week it isn't BYU either.....

Good point..... now long was Utah State ranked a couple years ago? Much more than a week.....
